"The Sand Castle Contest" is an original Holly Hobbie story featuring a town competition to build the best sand castle. Holly Hobbie and her friend Amy and Carrie are working together on a sand castle, while Holly's brother Robby and his friend Kyle have their own idea for a great sand castle. Everyone has a great time assembling their sand castles. But an event none of them can foresee leads to some unexpected and delightful teamwork.

Another nice story in the series. The plot is somewhat simple and the type of material you might find in a lot of series like this. But the good cheer of the characters and overall strength of the world that's been created for the series lends itself well to the book. There's definitely material in here that could be used for a future special. The illustrations are fun to look at, and, to top it off, the book comes with a number of glitter stickers that can be used to illustrate the book, or anything you like.

An excellent tool for helping a child grasp the attributes of God and develop an understanding of worshiping him.

Description: We Worship God is a creatively written and illustrated alphabet book on the attributes of God. The narrative and the illustrations work together well to create mini-stories on each page. For example, the word for "D" is Deliverer and the illustration shows Jesus rescuing or delivering her from an angry dog. Within every illustration the child can look for the letter of the alphabet as it is worked into the illustration.

What I like about the book is the reverence for God that is conveyed through the interaction between the words and pictures. The author did an excellent job of presenting many concepts on a child's level including Awesome Artist, Comforter, Guide, Immanuel, Just, Love, Wise, eXcellent and many more. Including the letters of the alphabet within the illustrations was a very creative touch that crosses over into learning to read for very young children as they try to discover the letters. Only a few words appear on each page - another plus for sharing this book with the very young.

It is harder to say what I don't like about the book, as I am highly impressed with it overall. The last two pages which use the letters Y and Z could fly over a young child's head - a problem inherent in any alphabet book that has to include every letter. The text crosses both pages "You are Zealous in your victory," and the "Z" illustration shows Jesus as a reigning king on a white horse over a cloud with lightning flashing out from under the cloud - as from Revelations.

I give this book four out of five stars.

I am using this in a class I teach. I was origally using a book more suitable for lawyers as opposed to paralegals. I love this book and think it is a great reference for paralegals who intend to work for trial a trial attorney.

Fantastic find from a friend

I geek out on food books. Been reading about all the diets to find a convention that works for me. This book captures a lot of items I already knew (eat vegetables & fruit) but goes into detail about which foods do what. Just as any diet book, one will not agree with everything, but I found myself understanding the science & agreed with 95% of the book. I have put a lot of trust into this book because now I have began taking suggested supplements for the brain. I have many books, China Study, The Zone Diet, Primal Blueprint; but felt this book was more accurate with real science. This has became my favorite diet book to date.

It was recommended to me by a friend who used to work as a personal trainer. I found it very informative and educational. I like how the studies referenced were listed as well so one can do more research if interested.

Packaging Meets Art

The Japanese have raised gift and utilitarian packaging to an art form. Travelers note how they take time to carefully fold and hand over even a modest purchase such as a small bag of pastry. Quality and courtesy rule.
This book features past practice through black and white photos from a now out-of-print book, updated with additions, showcasing a variety of traditional packaging. All are shown against a plain background so they stand out, more often than not just one or two items to a page. The pages are uncluttered by text yet commentary on each page is easily accessed at the back of the book. I love Japanese objects so I like this book. Favorites are a set of ten shrimp tied in straw, a confection wrapped in a leaf, and a handmade paper bag with a silk drawstring. Materials include straw, bamboo, wood, cloth, string, paper, leaves, some enhanced with calligraphy and other art. Artists and designers looking for inspiration for packaging would find some here. Students of creativity and innovation could as well.

Wrap it up, I'll take it

I have been trying to find an affordable copy of the original "How To Wrap Five Eggs" from the 1960s, and this is a very satisfying compromise. It includes wonderfully descriptive photographs, and provides insight into the deceptively-simple art of Asian packaging, as well as a primer on Why We Love Paper. Elegance, style, simplicity, function. Terrific!

This book is absolutely stunning! The Japanese art of packaging is so compelling. The images are large, and of high quality. It is a catalogue of a show that was traveling around some years back, so there is not as much info, but each piece has a correlating information section in the back - pretty much like a glossary for each image. It's wonderful.

About the Author

Andrey Yurkov, graduated from Moscow Mendeleev University of chemical technology, department of ceramics and refractories. He holds a Ph.D. in structural ceramics and Dr. Sci. Degree in materials science of refractory materials. Yurkov has more than a 100 publications. His areas of expertise and interests include materials science and processing of non-oxygen and oxygen containing ceramics and refractories, and their applications in the Aluminium industry Yurkov is currently working for the company “Russian Aluminium (RUSAL). He has also served as the organizer and chairperson of the seminar and conference “Refractories and carbon cathode materials for Aluminium industry”.

Nice text, but most part is dedicated to primary Aluminum cells and furnaces involved in its production. Good chapter dedicated to re-melting furnaces and secondary furnaces, what is usefull for those working with recycling processes.
