Amazing book

I read this book in spanish back in 2001. It was a gift from a friend. Probably one of the best if not the best book I've ever read. It is very exciting, with stories, testimonies, and most powerful the story of this man and how he went from nothing to leading a worldwide revival. About 70% of the book is his story, but the other 30% is a detailed cookbook on how to have a personal relationship with the holly ghost. I have since read the book every year. The power of the spirit is so powerful as you read this masterpiece that you will have to put it down at times and just worship. I have given this book to over 5 people.

About the Author

Tokunbo Ogunfunmi is a professor in the department of electrical engineering and Director of the Signal Processing Research Lab. (SPRL) at Santa Clara University, California. His research interests include digital adaptive/nonlinear signal processing, speech and video signal processing, artificial neural networks and VLSI design. He has published two books and over 100 refereed journal and conference papers in these and related application areas. Dr. Ogunfunmi has been a consultant to industry and government and a visiting professor at Stanford University and The University of Texas. He is a Senior Member of the Institution of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE), a Member of Sigma Xi (the Scientific Research Society) , and Member of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS). He serves as the Chair of the IEEE Signal Processing Society (SPS) Santa Clara Valley Chapter and as a member of several IEEE Technical Committees (TC). He is also a registered professional engineer.

Madihally (Sim) Narasimha is currently a Senior Director of Technology at Qualcomm Inc. Prior to joining Qualcomm, he was Vice President of Technology at Ample Communications, where he directed the development of Ethernet physical layer chips. Prior to that, he served in technology leadership roles at several Voice-over-IP (VoIP) startup companies including IP Unity, Realchip Communications, and Empowertel Networks. He also held senior management positions at Symmetricom and Granger Associates (a subsidiary of DSC Communications Corporation), where he was instrumental in bringing many DSP-based telecommunications products to market. Dr. Narasimha is also a Consulting Professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering at Stanford University, Stanford, CA, where he teaches telecommunications courses and performs research in related areas.He is a Fellow of the Institution of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE).

Speech coding book review

Very good book for speech coding. I have taken the course from the author, and it is a very good book for people who are entering the field of speech coding. The author has enough basic materials in the first few chapters to go over the basics in DSP and random process. The later chapters on vector quantization is very useful and they cover the fundamentals to read enough research material in this field. I highly recommend this book for people doing research in speech coding area.

The first settlement of Europeans in Florida occurred in 1564 in the vicinity of Jacksonville. French Huguenots attempted a foothold there and lasted a year before being wiped out by the Spanish. As the struggle between the French and Spanish developed, French forces were shipwrecked along the Florida coast and executed by the Spaniards in the vicinity of Matanzas Inlet.

In 2008 the authors began translating a Dutch manuscript published by Pieter Vander Aa, circa 1705, which was a collection of several French memoirs dealing with their settlement at Fort Caroline and subsequent conflicts with Spanish forces. The Vander Aa manuscript, previously unseen as an English publication, is used to drive on the investigation of new evidence found along the shore of Florida indicating where the Huguenots were killed and where at least one of their ships was wrecked. The book contains an exact reproduction of the Vander Aa manuscript, photos of artifacts supporting the new evidence, and more than twenty maps illustrating the subject locations. The French saga in Florida, albeit one thoroughly studied for more than a century, is presented here with fresh overview and comparative citations from previous scholars on the subject.
More than 60 color photos and more than 20 color maps. Includes 66 image pages of the original Vander Aa manuscript. Dozens of artifact and coin photos.

K-Gr 3-Metzger tells the story of 11-year-old Grace Bedell, who in 1860, wrote to the then presidential candidate and advised him to grow a beard since his face was too thin. She assured him that some whiskers would improve his appeal to women and translate into more votes from men. Lincoln actually responded but remained noncommittal on the matter. Once elected, his inaugural train stopped in Grace's hometown, Westfield, New York, and the girl had the chance to shake the hand of the newly minted, bearded president. Sidebars and insets with historical information that relates to the time period appear throughout, but they are awkwardly placed and make for a choppy read. Reproductions of the texts of the letters are appended. Overall, the story is interesting, but the fictional dialogue between Grace and her family members is annoying and the artwork is merely pedestrian. Grace Bedell is a name that the annals of history would have long forgotten had she not written a cheeky letter to Abraham Lincoln during the profoundly turbulent election of 1860. Bedell, a young girl living in a small town in New York, suggested to a whiskerless Lincoln that his chances of winning the election would be greatly increased if he grew a beard to cover his slim face. Even more remarkable than Bedell’s bold suggestion was Lincoln’s good-natured written response to her letter, a copy of which can be found in this book’s back matter. I believe this is a great book to read around President Day or any time. I enjoyed the book and plan on reading it to my third graders as a read aloud and class discussion. Then I will ask if they had to write their president what would they suggest to him or just write to him.

Michael R. Lindeburg, PE, is one of the best-known authors of engineering textbooks and references. His books and courses have influenced millions of engineers around the world. Since 1975, he has authored more than 35 engineering reference and exam preparation books. He has spent thousands of hours teaching engineering to students and practicing engineers. He holds bachelor of science and master of science degrees in industrial engineering from Stanford University.

This book is primarily a companion to the Civil Engineering Reference Manual. As a tool for preparing for an engineering licensing exam, there are a few, but not very many, ways to use it.

Before it grew to behemoth size, I envisioned this book being taken to work, on the bus or train, on business trips, and on weekend pleasure getaways to the beach. I figured that it would “carry” a lot easier than the big Civil Engineering Reference Manual. Though I do not think you will be taking this book on any backpacking trips, you might still find yourself working problems in the cafeteria during your lunch break.

The big issue is whether you really work the practice problems or not. Some people think they can read a problem statement, think about it for about ten seconds, read the solution, and then say “Yes, that is what I was thinking of, and that is what I would have done.” Sadly, these people find out too late that the human brain does not learn very efficiently in that manner. Under pressure, they find they know and remember too little. For real learning, you have to spend some time with a stubby pencil.

Great book for 95% of the topics for Civil Engineering

I've been studying for the civil exam (structural) with this and it is very in depth which is great. There are a lot of details and a plethora of information on all subjects related to Civil Engineering. This will be one of my main books for the exam. It also pairs with the Practice Problems quite well.

That being said, I am not amused by the Masonry section from this book. This is a very detailed book (and expensive) with 3 chapters dedicated to Masonry (29 pages) and there are 11 pages of errata for this section for the first printing. I will have to print out the pages and keep it with the book during the exam as I cannot trust the Masonry section of the book because there are so many errors.

Not worth it

As preparation for the PE Exam, I did not find this book very helpful at all. It is a completely different format than what you'll find on the actual exam. I took the exam twice, and for the second exam, I had the guidebook written by NCEES, which was far more helpful. This book now sits on my desk at work for occasional referencing, which is really the only value that I've gotten from it. Otherwise, I'd give it only one star.

One of the most amazing cinema books I've ever read—Highest Recommendation, for Ro-Man Devotees!

Anders Runested has done the seemingly impossible: he has authored the definitive book on not just ROBOT MONSTER, but its makers, dispelling countless codified myths about writer Wyatt Ordung and especially director Phil Tucker. This is comprehensive, exhaustive, and highly entertaining from stem-to-stern—and it's a bargain at any price! Over 675 pages (!!!) on one of the most bizarre, beloved, boon-doggling and mind-boggling movies ever made and Tucker's other films (an entire chapter on one of my personal favorite movies, THE CAPE CANAVERAL MONSTERS from 1960, made this even more worth the purchase to me). Highly recommended, fully illustrated and (just as importantly) fully annotated, I can't praise this writer or his book enough.

Great Read

Amazingly detailed look at not just the making of the film, but also the life of Phil Tucker... and the making of several other of his films, such as Dance Hall Racket. It also looks at the lives of some of his key collaborators on Robot Monsters, such as Wyatt Ordung. Also includes the full original script of Robot Monster. It's a remarkable book.

The best book about the best, worst, movie of all time!

I didn't think it was possible to write a comprehensive book about a film I consider the best, worst, film ever made--but Mr. Runestad manages it, blending information about the filming of Robot Monster with data on its creator and director. A long, but worthwhile read for any film historian--bravo!
