Great book!

As a paper engineer and artist with some electronic experience, I have found that learning about gears, pulleys, motors, and the actual mechanics of getting things to move somewhat daunting. There are basic books geared towards beginners as well as books filled with inspiring complex examples that are impossible to navigate unless you already have a high level of expertise. This book is the book I've been looking for. It is really useful and very comprehensive in its approach and scope. It starts with the basics, but, takes you through a wide array of materials, techniques, and examples. Its section on motors (and arduino control) is great. I think its a fantastic book for students and individuals with varying skills, experience, and interests. Highly recommend it.

Fantastic Presentation

I'm sure the way you respond to this book will depend heavily on your experience level as a mechanical and electronics tinkerer. I happen to be right in the bullseye of the author's target audience: this book is perfect for where I am in my informal education in those areas. My favorite part is that Ms. Roberts makes specific recommendations for tools and for parts and materials sources. The information is presented in a very logical order. It is intentionally not too deep - just the bare essentials to get you started experimenting. But with plenty of information about how to go further. If you want to learn how to build machines that move, this is a great place to start.

Relatively basic introductory book on "mechatronics"

OK. Relatively basic introductory book on "mechatronics". If you have never laid hands on a stepper motor, gear motor, or some kind of microcontroller such as Arduino or Raspberry Pi then this might be a great book for you. But if you are advanced past that level I would not recommend it.

The brutal killing of a little Princess

At the time this beautiful little girl was so mercy less killed, our family had our own trauma with my husband being very, very ill. I took note of JonBenet, but soon forgot about her until recently with all the books on the market about the killing. I never knew how she died and is still shocked
at what I read in this well-written book. Looking at photos of the family it is hard to believe that "maybe as it is not proved yet" this child died at their hands. How on earth could anybody do that to a child? The outlay of the house is so well described by Charles Bosworth, that whilst reading the narrative, it felt as if I am there. He manages to take the reader with the people living there and sharing in every single event. When John "discovered" the little corpse, I could almost see her on the cold concrete floor. Although he does not make a big deal of Burke, I do feel he has more to do with the crime. I am sure with all the people in the house Burke must have drawn attention to himself and maybe had an eyebrow lifted at how he behaved. The book is well written and I can recommend it as informative.

Too Much Chest-Pounding By Dr. Wecht!

Overall, I think this is a very good book and I am not questioning Dr. Wecht's qualifications, his work or his conclusions.

I think that the book could have been improved by some small editing to minimize the effusive gushing over Dr. Wecht's accomplishments.

I don't know if this was done by the co-author or by Dr. Wecht himself, but the laudatory comments read like someone bragging in a high school yearbook. The language used to attempt to glorify Dr. Wecht had the opposite effect on me. I felt it was overdone, childish and unnecessary.

However, other than that, I think this is a very sensible, readable book, and I do recommend it to anyone who is interested in the Ramsey case.

Part of the ongoing Math Start series, which offers math concepts in picture-book format for a variety of levels, this book introduces the multiples of five, as lizards of different colors travel through the pages on unicycles, a hot-air balloon, an airplane, and other modes of transport, while a green snake looks on. Finally, the number 50 is reached, and lizards explode in all directions. Written in short couplets, the simple text describes the ever-increasing number of lizards, but the highlight of the book is the effective design. An intelligent blending of white space and colors make each double-page spread visually stand out. A box on one side of each page helps children keep track of the multiplying lizards, and a closing section offers adults a few more ideas for easy math education. Todd Morning

Another great book in this series

Math Start! What can I say about this series? I have so many of them, because I love the way they draw kids in with the story, and have such great connections to the Math we are working on in the classroom. I would recommend this series of books highly! You can purchase based on the skills you are working on or based on the level of your students. Great resource!!

Fantastic math related book.

My son was given several of the titles in this series for Christmas. He and his 3 year old sister really enjoy all of them. In this one, they are trying to gather all the lizards together. They arrive in 5's. Then the narrator loses count and they start over, only this time they count by 10's. Great stuff. Makes skip counting painless.

This has quickly become one of my son's favorite books. We like to read it together on the floor while using "counting bears" to count along with the story. It is a really fun way to introduce skip counting and other preschool math concepts. Reading the book while counting out the bears helps my kiddo see and understand exactly how and why 5+5=10. Highly recommend!

I read all of the chapters of the book. A few things stood out as positive, these are (1) it covers the entire hedge fund administrating perspective very well, (2) it was easy to read and (3) the language was expertise agnostic.

The negatives were (1) it was not detailed enough for individuals with prior experience in alternative investments, (2) it did not focus on Private Equity and Venture Capital enough and (3) more than half of the book's pages are dedicated to a glossary and appendixes.

If you are not looking for the general overview and seeking details, this may not be the book for you.

Excellent priomer of funds administration written by vastly experienced authors. Would recommend it to anyone entering or pursuing a career in the funds industry. More expensive than some guides, but comprehensive and much better value

Monsters, witches, magic...what's not to love about Halfway Dead?! This is the first book I've read by Terry Maggert and definitely, DEFINITELY, won't be my last. I found Terry's characters to be original and his story to be both charming and unique. I think the one thing I'd like to point out is that his writing is what I consider "smart" writing, my favorite kind. There are brow-raising references, eloquently-written paragraphs and laugh out loud lines that make this book a page-turner. Please do yourself a favor and check this one out. Magic, Waffles, and Vikings.

Magic runs in Carlie McEwan's blood, literally. In the tiny town of Halfway, deep in the Adirondack mountains, Carlie carries on the family tradition, never coming right out and saying she's a witch, but accepting the letters asking for help from the townfolk - as long as the envelope and paper is handmade and plain and the ink from the forest or natural world, and they must mean no harm.

When she's not helping people with beneficial spells, Carlie makes the worlds best waffles and kills things that go bump in the night, like Wendigo's.

When Carlie is approached by a stranger looking for a guide into the woods, her first instinct is to say no. Until she's shown the picture of a half circle of American chestnut trees, a variety thought to be extinct. That's not what holds Carlie's interest. There's something about that half circle. Something familiar about the tumble of stones behind it.

And it's Carlie's gran who knows why. It's an old family story, one past due to be wrapped up.

The magic in Halfway Dead is more in line with the natural world. Enough so that I was surprised when a vampire turned up with talk of werewolves and shifters. The forest teems with a full compliment of fae and that forest is every bit as much a character as the people in the story.

There was a potential bad guy and a string of murders that are mentioned, but never develop into anything Carlie has to worry about. The end of the story comes quickly and gives us a peek at what the direction the next book might take. Shifters, a missing girl, and an amorous vampire - oh my! I look forward to the next Halfway book.

Waffles and magic are a great combination!

I give this book a 5 out of 5 stars for characters, interesting plot lines, cover design, memorable lines, and for Terry writing such a memorable and amazing story!

Carlie is a white witch. And even though I know absolutely nothing about witchcraft, I found myself enthralled by the descriptions of how her magic was a piece of herself. She didn't come off as entitled or uppity because she had power, but instead loved being a down-to-earth cook at the local diner. She really reminded me of Dean Koontz's "Odd Thomas," which is one of my favorite books of all time.

The story was enthralling and drew me in immediately. If I didn't have a job, husband, or kids, I would've read the story straight through! Curse you, responsibilities!

Memorable lines were placed naturally throughout the book. I won't spoil any that relate to direct plot points, but these are a few of my favorites:

"Even sitting, he towered over me, but not in threatening way, unless you consider good customer service to be a menace to your person. I did not, so I smiled."

"when my hair gets crazy, it becomes an alien life form that can threaten cities."
Carlie is full of great lines and passion for her craft. Imagery of the moon and scenery puts the reader directly into the story.

SO, to sum up, if you like waffles, magic, evil, the moon, love, deceit, and just an all-around great read, pick up "Halfway Dead" by Terry Maggert!

This is the first book I’ve read by Terry Maggert and definitely, DEFINITELY, won’t be my last.
