Good Book to get you started...

I liked this book. It was informative and contained a good amount of Shemin's experiences to color the text and information given. I do have a problem however, and it's not with the book, but rather the readers who have such negative opinions about these types of books. One of the overwhelming themes that I read in these people's negative reviews is "s/he didn't tell me how"...what are you people talking about?
Shemin told you what he did...he interviewed two hundred landlords and tenants...he looked at houses and investment properties for six months before making an offer. Even he said it didn't need to take that much time, but fear held him back. He told you how to evaluate a property, things to look for. He even provides a checklist. He told you that first and foremost "HE MADE A DECISION TO ACHIEVE FINANCIAL FREEDOM WITH REAL ESTATE". Yes, he made a decision. Any succesful person will tell you, once you make the decision, the hows become easy.
It seems like people want a book to tell them why they should do this, not how. The hows are in this book. The hows are in any book. That's why they're referred to as "How-To's". The "why" to do something is for you and you alone to figure out. Don't buy anybody's book if you're looking for why. I read the same kind of negative opinions when I look at bad reviews of Kiyosaki's "Rich Dad Poor Dad" stuff. What do you want these books to do? Go out and find the properties, get the financing, find the tenants and collect money for you?
Shemin's book is good. I will tell you to stay from Tyler Hicks' works. He's nothing but an informercial in book form. But I like what the author has to say. But, none of these books will do anything for you until...you...do...it!

very informative for the rookie real estate investor

I just started to become interested in real estate and I found this book very informative. One section that stands out in my mind that I will use in the future is the section that gives tips on how to inexpensively dress up a house to get a higher price. Is very realistic about what to expect concerning life as a landlord, gave tips on how to "flip" houses (for the more experienced investor)and advantages and disadvantages of holding on to property or "flipping" property. I would recommend this book to new investors.

I truly enjoy reading this book. It demonstrates the use of common sense and giving back. And, that is how I actually starting in the real estate field. I have over sixteen years of property management experience and a successful owner, and investor in rental properties. And, this book has made a great impact on me. I would recommend it to anyone who is a novice or itermeditate and want to learn more about investing, owning, and flipping properties. It's definately a realistic book. Others, I would strongly recommend would be Lanlording, Find It, Buy It, anf Fix It is great and The New No-Non Sense Lanlord by Jergerson. You will never want to resell these books.

interesting History

I found this book very interesting and I came to understand more on earthquakes.
I remember reading of this quake in my local town newspaper (too poor for TV) wish I still did not have one most of the time.
Anyway, reading all the destruction and how people afterwards came together with such positive attitudes of "it could have been
worse"and looked to start rebuilding.
I also never knew Alaska was so prone to earthquakes even surpassing California!
I highly recommend this natural disaster history you will learn a lot of Alaska

Great read...definitely recommend

This is a really thorough and well written account of a remarkable natural disaster. Many first hand accounts make this a compelling read. I've travelled south from anchorage on numerous occasions past a large field of dead trees. I always thought the trees were killed by fire. I was shocked to learn the tsunami after the quake wiped them out.

About the Author
Napoleon Hill (1883-1970) was born in a one-room cabin on the Pound River in Wise County, Virginia. He began his writing career at age 13 as a "mountain reporter" for small town newspapers and went on to become America's most beloved motivational author. His classic work, Think and Grow Rich, continues to inspire millions to believe and achieve and is a cornerstone of the modern self-actualization movement. Before passing, Hill established the Foundation as a nonprofit educational institution whose mission is to perpetuate his philosophy of leadership, self-motivation, and individual achievement.

Don Green, a resident of Wise, Virginia, the birthplace of Napoleon Hill, brings nearly 45 years of banking, finance, and entrepreneurship experience to his role as Executive Director of the Napoleon Hill Foundation. His first youthful business venture was charging admission to see his pet bear yes, the living, growling kind! Since 2000, Green has traveled worldwide and used his finance skills to grow the Foundation s funds in order to continue the Foundation s educational outreach to prisons. Green has both modeled leadership skills as a CEO and taught them through the PMA Science of Success course at the University of Virginia s College at Wise. Martha Augoustinos is Professor of Psychology at the University of Adelaide and Co-Director of the Fay Gale Centre for Research on Gender.

Iain Walker is a Senior Research Scientist with Australia’s Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation, where he leads the Social & Behavioural Sciences Group. He is an Adjunct Professor of Psychology at the University of Western Australia, and 3 other Australian universities.

Ngaire Donaghue is an Associate Professor of Social Psychology at Murdoch University in Western Australia.

While this unqualified use of the term "Apostolic See" for Rome persists, the study discloses that there was a growing awareness on the part of Conciliar Fathers and the Popes themselves following the Council to qualify the exclusive formula. To help explain the origin and spread of the exclusive usage of "Apostolic See", the thesis adopts an interdisciplinary approach using insights from the sciences of ecclesiology, linguistics and sociology. Applying the sociological concept of reference groups, the study argues that the Eastern churches initially conformed to the Roman usage as the model to imitate. However, a more recent sampling of the use of "Apostolic See" by the Maronite, Melkite and Coptic Catholic Churches reveals that these churches have not invariably adopted the Western practice of naming Rome the "Apostolic See". The work concludes with the wish that the new Eastern code's adoption of the Roman terminology does not obscure its genuinely Eastern and ecumenical character.

Conversations with Richard Wright collects some fifty interviews, many of which are little known in the United States because they appeared in non-English European periodicals and newspapers. This collection reveals a serious, often didactic Wright, giving voice to his inarticulate brothers and sisters as he reveals his racially representative colonialism. Most of his interviewers were white men, and he was always trying to make them listen. European issues also claimed his attention as he struggled to reconcile Marxism, Freudianism, and existentialism to the political realities from 1945 to his death in 1960.

Relevant today

I discovered Wright ("Black Boy"---his bio) while volunteering as a student group discussion "facilitator" at our downtown charter high school. I wanted to learn more of him in "Conversations" and did. Much of the book gives answers (why he preferred) for his expat days in Paris, France where he died. I can't understand why he isn't quoted (and read) more in these days of awakened racism in the U.S. Many of the comments (on Amazon) label him as a "whiner" but I disagree. He liked his polemic/literary style and NEVER viewed himself as Black, but merely another human trying to survive on the planet.

An Exceptional Read

Every older woman who is apprehensive about dating again needs to read this book. KarenLee Poter delivers a phenomenal guide to restoring self confidence and tenacity. Her book will help you to curtail all self doubt and apprehension you feel about dating. If I could sum it up in one word, I would use restorative.

I not only recommend this for women, but for men as well. It helped me better understand the obstacles faced older women. It will also give you insight in to becoming a better friend, boyfriend, and lover. I applaud Ms. Poter for her perseverance in broaching this subject, and redefining the meaning of the term COUGAR. I will definitely be purchasing her next book.
