Light My Fire

I am a longtime Christie Ridgway fan. Her Beach House #9 series is probably one of my all time favorites series written. When I got the email to review her latest book being published, I pounced on the opportunity. I was even more excited to find out this is more in the category of NA (the heroine s 24).

This story follows Cilla and Ren both of their fathers are Rock Legends from the band Velvet Lemons (Terrible name I know). We basically get to see what their life was like growing up with famous dads and no moms (This is true for all 7 of the other kids as well). The one woman who held the children together and helped them through their adolescence has recently passed away. In her will she has asked that Ren come back to the compound and get his inheritance. Little did Ren know this would mean sharing Gwen's (The woman who passed away) cottage with the all grown-up and beautiful Cilla.

In true Ridgway style you have a stubborn as a bull hero and a sweet and understanding heroine. I will admit at times both characters really got on my nerves. Prissy or Priscilla or Cilla whatever you want to call her, came off weak and at times desperate. I wasn't a fan, but she did end up redeeming herself and I enjoyed her character a lot in the end. Ren, I wanted to punch him. I do not like a male lead who likes to feel sorry for himself and being in a characters head like that can get annoying quickly. I also didn't like how he would tell Cilla he didn't want her but the moment she had male attention he got super possessive and protective, (Whiplash much?) then he gets upset when Cilla does get attached to him. Way to send mixed signals buddy.

I enjoyed a lot of the secondary characters and would have liked more from them, but she is writing stories on each of the children from the compound so I can't wait for that. I'm particularly excited for Cami's story.

If your in the mood for a quick romance with some steamy scenes, then I definitely think this book is for you. I will add that there isn't anything too original about this story, I feel like I have read it many times before hence the 3.5 stars. It is well written, the characters are likable, and the romance is sweet.

skimmed a lot

I decided to read this book based on the other reviews but I have to say I didn't agree with the 4 and 5 star ratings.

I found myself skimming through a lot of it actually but did finish it. For that reason alone I gave it 3 stars. I didn't feel emotionally connected to the characters at all. The H was supposed to be the bad boy type and I just really didn't get that. There were good parts of the story but not enough to hold my interest. I won't continue reading the series but if your in the mood for a light easy read then I would recommend it I guess.

Lighting Fires

Light My Fire, by Christie Ridgway, is the first in her new Rock Royalty series. Somewhere in Laurel Canyon the three members of the band The Lemons built a compound to raise their progeny. Each band member had 3 children for a total of 9 princes and princesses from eight different women, with one set of twins, who left their children with their fathers. However, a roadie named Gwen stayed and built a house in the compound to help raise the kids. In this story we meet Ren, Renford Colson, and Pricillia, Cilla, Maddox. Gwen has passed away and left her collection of rock fashion wear from the 70s to Cilla. Gwen also had left a box for Ren.

Ren, the second oldest and the bad boy, returns to the compound from his home base of London. He became a specialist in backstage security and now runs his own business. Cilla, the youngest, is a fashion designer, based in LA, who creates magical fashion for others. She returns to the compound to catalogue the fashion collection. From the time she was a preteen, Cilla had a crush on Ren.

As the two spend time at Gwen’s house the attraction and chemistry between the two arises. Ren realizes that Cilla is no longer a child. He also agrees to mentor Cilla in the art of love making. Cilla is coming off a relationship with an unstable man who blames her for what goes wrong, or doesn’t happen, when they have sex. Ren helps Cilla see how sexual she really is. As their time together continues, Ren believes he is unworthy of and unable to have a long lasting, loving relationship. Cilla shows him how wrong he is and how much he deserves the love she has for him.

The story introduces the reader to the other seven royalty members. We have Cami (the only other girl) and Payne, siblings of Ren; twins Bing and Brody, Cilla’s brothers, and from the third family Beck (the eldest), Walsh, and Reed. All except Beck live nearby in Los Angeles and have reunited. They have become a tribe children of the compound. They promote Gwen’s saying of “When life gives you Lemons, make Lemonade.”

I loved the way Christie Ridgway took the reader along on Cilla and Ren’s journey to finding themselves, each other, and letting go of their pasts. She showed the growth in the relationship between these two characters as well as how their affection for each other continued to grow. I highly recommend this book to all readers and I cannot wait to read the next story in this series.

Everyone knows this book is a must have for any sub-i, intern, and resident. must for every on call room. well organized. Comes with a kindle access, which you can also acces on the kindle app if you have another tablet device. fits in the white coat pocket. haven't really figured what's updated from the previous edition, but I haven't gome through it all the way though.

A great resource for that night on call or for anyone just starting in ortho. If you are looking for fracture categorizations and schemes than this is the book. It also does a good job of covering basic operative and nonoperative treatment protocols as well. And it is small enough to carry around with you in a lab coat.

Couldn't be happier

I'm very pleased with the content of this book. It is definately a university level book. I'm not a university level music student, but my aim is to gain the best understanding of my chosen profession as possible by teaching myself. I do not go to school for this. I do not have a teacher. I needed a reliable source of information, and this is about as in depth as I'd like to go right now. The first few chapters are a refresher course, however, I found that I gained a wealth of information just from studying those chapters. I see this as a book that will take me years to finish with. After I've read the book, I will definately come back to this to reinforce what I've learned. My only gripe is that the self test is outstanding, challenging, and interesting, but the book does not contain an answer key.

Commercial music textbook primarily for classroom use

With this 1995 title, Ardsley House continues its bid to introduce a complete quality line of university-level music industry textbooks. Unlike texts or popular books which subtly suggest that songwriters and media-oriented music makers might be able to get by with a little less traditional theory, author Richard Sorce, from New York University, where leading programs in both musical theater and commercial music can now be found, heads in the other direction, saying, "There is no quick method of becoming a competent composer, songwriter, arranger, orchestrator, harmonist, improvisor, or theorist." This book, then, is a map of the high road, for commercial musicians who want to make every theory stop along the way. The author's philosophy is that the music of the common practice period (1650-1875?) guides not only classically-oriented musicians, but all music practitioners. "Whether a performer, writer, arranger, recording engineer, or publishing agent, the professional musician must know the componenets of music if he or she expects to sustain a successful career." Sorce has thus taken the stand of a purist, and many competent commercial practitioners may disagree. But on the other hand, so many young musicians begin careers, knowing how to do a few things well, but then, when their careers take the inevitable turn toward film scoring or other larger works, they find themselves relatively clueless. That's where this book can help. Take pages 180 and 181, for example: I get all excited seeing Bach's "Chorale No.15" from "St. John Passion," side by side with Paul Simon's "Stranded in a Limousine," with both of them harmonized using popular music chord symbols. I'm hoping that teachers of commercial music will gradually adopt this rather rigorous text, which sets a new benchmark in the field of theory for the commercial musician. Paradise lost...

As a sincere lover of both Wodehouse and the Jeeves and Wooster stories, I found this particular entry to be frequently off-putting and less enjoyable than most other entries. As Waugh is quoted as noting, what makes Wodehouse wonderful is the sense one gets in reading his work of a timeless idyllic world; it could never realistically exist, but it is such a delight to visit. This novel, however, feels very much of its time and of this world, or perhaps a world that we are better shot of, so to speak.

There are the requisite share of moments that make one chuckle (the Pro-Con list comes to mind) but there are an equal if not greater number of moments that make one cringe. It functions perhaps more as a curio for the Wooster completist than as a necessary reading experience. Of course, your mileage may vary.

Wooster and Jeeves, his Gentleman’s Gentleman, get into so many hilarious situations, in this book, that I could hardly stop laughing. I think that the story itself is hilarious and the hijinks, that they all get into, kept me racing through the pages to find out what would happen next. You have to enjoy English humor to really appreciate how funny this really is. I am so grateful to a kind friend that brightened up my day by sending me a copy of it! I thoroughly enjoyed it and highly recommend it to all lovers of English humor!!

I love P. G. Wodehouse and this is one of his best. With the combination of old Stoker( a father of Bertie's former engagement), Pauline (extremely likable American girl), and Brinkley( Bertie's temporary valet who's the opposite of Jeeves),this is a great book!!!!!! It also has the usual circumstance where Bertie gets into trouble and Jeeves bails him out. GREAT BOOK!
